THE NUMBERS, EXPLAINED

Track Distance and Partial Laps

Calculate completed laps and the remaining distance without rounding a partial lap into a full one.

Start with a stated lap length

A lap calculation needs two distances: the total and the length of one complete lap. PaceRibbon offers 200, 300 and 400 m presets and a custom 50–1,000 m length. Use the length relevant to the sheet you are checking; the tool does not infer track geometry or lane measurements.

Separate the whole laps and remainder

Divide the total distance by the lap length. The whole-number part is the count of completed laps. Subtract the distance covered by those laps from the target to obtain the remainder.

5,000 m with 400 m laps
CalculationResult
5,000 ÷ 40012.5 laps including the fraction
12 × 4004,800 m in completed laps
5,000 − 4,800200 m remaining
13 × 4005,200 m: beyond the selected distance

Allocate the target time to the distance

With a 20:00 target for 5 km, a complete 400 m lap takes 96 seconds, or 1:36. Twelve such laps take 19:12, and the remaining 200 m takes 0:48. These add to the exact target without treating the remainder as a whole lap.

The same distance with another lap length

For a 300 m lap, the same 5,000 m contains 16 complete laps plus 200 m. The remainder happens to be the same, but the full-lap count and full-lap duration change. Always recalculate after changing lap length.
