Convert treadmill mph or km/h to minutes per mile and kilometre. Check speeds such as 6 mph, or find the speed for 5:00/km.

Check the speed unit first

A display reading of 6 means different speeds in mph and km/h. Select the unit printed on the machine before entering its value. The converter translates that number into the other speed unit and into time per kilometre and mile.

Worked example: 6 mph

One mile is exactly 1.609344 km in this calculator. Six miles per hour therefore converts to 9.656064 km/h. Covering one mile at that speed takes ten minutes, while one kilometre takes approximately 6:13 when shown to the nearest second.

Compare a short set of recorded values

If your notes contain several speeds, retain the original value and unit beside each converted result. Do not round a converted speed and then use that rounded number to reconstruct the original pace. Re-enter the original reading when you want to check a row.

Common questions

Is 6 mph the same as 6 km/h?

No. At 6 mph, pace is 10:00/mile or about 6:13/km. At 6 km/h, pace is 10:00/km or about 16:06/mile. When you switch the speed unit, the converter changes the number to preserve the same speed. Enter a new number if you want to compare two different display readings.

What treadmill speed is 5:00/km?

Exactly 12 km/h, or about 7.456 mph. For the reverse calculation, open the running pace calculator, choose Time, set the pace to 5 minutes 00 seconds per kilometre and read the speed results. Incline and machine calibration are outside this conversion.
