Use this result with confidence
Calculate pace, finish time or distance with clear kilometre and mile results. Start with a 10 km, 50-minute example.
Choose the value you need
A pace is the time taken to cover one unit of distance. Choose Pace when you know a distance and finish time, Time when you know a distance and pace, or Distance when you know a duration and pace. Enter the other two values and keep the unit labels beside your numbers.
A 10 km example
For 10 km in 50 minutes, divide 3,000 seconds by 10 kilometres. The result is exactly 300 seconds per kilometre: 5:00/km. The same plan is about 8:03 per mile when displayed to the nearest second, and exactly 12 km/h.
| Known values | Calculate | Result |
|---|---|---|
| 10 km + 0:50:00 | Pace | 5:00/km |
| 10 km + 5:00/km | Finish time | 0:50:00 |
| 0:50:00 + 5:00/km | Distance | 10 km |
Keep units attached to your input
Distance supports metres, kilometres and miles. Pace supports minutes per kilometre or per mile. A decimal distance such as 10.5 uses an English decimal point; enter duration in the separate hours, minutes and seconds fields. The calculator stores precise distance and time values before formatting the result.
Turn the result into a reference
Open the matching split table to see cumulative times, or make a pace band for a printed reference. These numbers describe the values you enter; they do not assess whether a target is suitable for you.
Common questions
Does 5.5 mean 5:50 per kilometre?
No. A decimal 5.5 minutes is 5 minutes 30 seconds. In the pace fields, enter 5 for minutes and 30 for seconds. For 10 km, 5:30/km gives a 55:00 finish; 5:50/km gives 58:20.
How do I enter a 90-minute run?
Use 1 hour, 30 minutes and 00 seconds. With Distance selected and a pace of 6:00/km, that duration gives 15 km. Keep a zero in each unused time field.
